Hospitalization

We do our best to treat your pet as quickly and efficiently to get your pet feeling better and resolve the medical problem.  In many cases treatments and medications can be administered starting in the hospital, followed by sending your pet home for continued treatment at home with appropriate instructions and follow-up care.

Depending on the severity of your pet’s disease or condition, some patients require admittance to the hospital for treatment to resolve or manage a medical problem.  Our doctors and staff take pride in providing the care and comfort that your pet needs while away from your home.  We do everything to make your pet feel calm and peaceful while hospitalized to aide in their quick recovery.

Our ICU and Recovery area, Hospital ward, and Isolation room are all equipped with large, oversized kennels so that your pet has room to move around and get comfortable while hospitalized.  We provide soft padded bedding for your pet’s warmth and support, and for patients that have a tendency to get cold, we use a heat therapy pump, a warming device, to maintain body temperature.  We use intravenous fluid and medication pumps to administer constant appropriate doses of fluid therapy and medication to aide in your pets return to health.  For critically ill patients that require oxygen therapy, we have a dedicated oxygen source piped directly into the ICU and Recovery area that can be utilized when necessary.

All patients admitted to the hospital will be under the care of a veterinarian, monitored routinely, administered treatments at appropriate intervals, and allowed frequent supervised trips outside to stretch their legs and potty.  We encourage owners to call at start of day and end of day for their pet’s patient update, as well as in certain situations, we may call you before those times.  In addition, we allow owners to visit with their pets while hospitalized.  Please call ahead so that we can coordinate a time that is best for you and your pet.  We try to limit visits to twice a day for 15 minutes at a time so as not to interfere with your pet’s treatment.

Our goal in hospitalization is to stabilize and treat sick, ill, and critical patients and return them to good health and normal function as soon as possible so that they can return home happy and healthy.

Please contact our office if you have any questions about your pet’s care while hospitalized.
