DENTAL PREVENTATIVE CARE

We perform a variety of dental procedures to improve your pet’s oral health.  We recommend oral cavity and dental examinations by a veterinarian to assess the overall health of your pet’s mouth.  After examination, there may be abnormalities noted in your pet’s mouth that require further care for the health of the teeth and gums.  We have a dedicated dental suite with state of the art dental equipment to provide treatment for all of your pet’s dental care needs.

Veterinary dental procedures are most often performed with the pet under anesthesia; this is a routine protocol using the safest anesthesia, constant monitoring of your pet’s vital signs while under anesthesia, and having the pet under anesthesia for only a short period of time.  Dental prophylaxis is then performed; this procedure includes cleaning, scaling, and polishing all surfaces of the teeth, followed by a thorough oral cavity examination by a veterinarian. 

Healthy teeth and gums are very important for your pet.  A healthy oral cavity is possible with preventative care, including routine oral examination and dental prophylaxis performed by your veterinarian, followed by continued oral care at home in the form of routine brushing with pet approved brushes and pastes, dental wipes, rinses, and chews.  When choosing pet products for at home use, look for the ‘Veterinary Oral Health Council’ or ‘VOHC Accepted’ stamp of approval for reputable and effective products.  In addition, we will gladly assist in product selection and recommendations for your pet if needed.

ORAL SURGERY

In some cases during the oral cavity examination and dental prophylaxis significant disease is found to be present and has the potential to have a negative impact on the overall health of the pet.  In other cases, pet owners notice an odor of the pet’s breath, discharge or blood in the oral cavity, or difficulty eating or chewing.  Some of these more extensive oral cavity problems require surgery to correct.  Common examples include loose, abscessed, or broken teeth, foreign objects lodged in the pet’s mouth, and tumors found inside the soft structures of the oral cavity.  We have the ability to perform oral cavity surgeries in our dental suite to eliminate these problems and return your pet’s overall oral health.
